The blue thing
In our house, nothing strikes fear into the hearts of babes like, The Blue Thing. Nasal aspirator, boogie extractor call it what you will...nobody likes it. Vigilant moms keep their babies' noses clean. The world is not accepting of snot-nosed kids.
That doesn't mean we can't have some fun discusssing it ;)

In this corner weighing in at 16 chunky baby lbs, the formidable Night Snacker Extrordinaire!
And in this corner weighing in at 35 superdense lbs. Known for her extra pointy knees and elbows: Crack of Dawn King!
I want a clean fight. No diaper wedgies or wiping boogies on your sister.

Sleep Games
Put one to asleep. Put the other one to sleep.
Sigh with relief.
Oops. One is up. Quick before she wakes the other one up.
Shhh. Shhhh. Shhh.
Gently sneak out. Curse charming old squeaky hardwood floors.
Crap. There is the other one....
Where is my padded mallet? At least I could win a prize at the carnival for using the same skills.

Pilgrim's Progress
I find something enormously satisfying about making baby food.
This is my latest sweet potato/butternut squash medley. I think that perhaps I read the Little House on the Praire series one too many times. Or maybe I am making up for other areas of weakness in my life. But making baby food seems like a much better and more interesting use of my time than dusting the baseboards (who have applied for "pet" status they are so hairy). I love that making baby food is easy, fast and cheap. I love that the purees are so pretty and geometric when they are done. Did I mention that I make my own yogurt too? I know that your inner weirdo alert is going off. Even the girls' doctor rolled his eyes and laughed at me. Hey, it keeps me off the corner trying to score a street version of the epidural.
Does Harper like it? Sure. Does she also love her green Gerber veggies from the jar. Yep. But once spring is here, I'll be pureeing all sorts of green goodies from the farmer's market. Once I made Merriwether an English pea and asparagus puree. She has rewarded my effort by becoming devoted to fish sticks dipped in ketchup.
I think Gaga may have summed it up perfectly. She was feeding Harper one of my concoctions and she looked lovingly at the baby and said, "I guess you will eat anything."

Grandparents
We stopped by to visit Googoo and Grumps today. As we were walking up to their door Merriwether looked at me quizzically and said, "Mama are you going to stay?" I assured her that I was not leaving. After she had completed a puzzle, had a helping of fresh blueberries, and read her new book she looked at me again and said, "Mama, you can go now."
Darling, am I cramping your style already?
We got home and her Gaga had left Merriwether a package on the porch. New fuzzy pink princess slippers.
It is good to be adored.

Bonus!
Two children don't just create a mind blowing amount of laundry and dishes. There are perks too. Sometimes they PLAY TOGETHER! Merriwether was very involved in making dinosaurs. There was a mommy, a daddy and lots of kids. The kids had a trampoline. The mommy was a doctor and had to give a lot of shots. The daddy was carrying a baby in a sling.
I used to sleep in on Saturday mornings, this is almost better.
Oh, did you notice who can sit up?
